I had a dream yesterday. I imprisoned a small bird. I chained it with a tiny noose around her neck and tied her near a netted window. She could see the sky through the mesh and feel the air, but she couldn’t escape. She felt trapped, yet she didn’t try to break free. She didn’t attempt to loosen the noose or push against the walls that stood between her and her freedom. She only dreamed of getting out.

She hopped and walked around like a flightless bird, hoping silently. In her agony, the walls seemed to close in, and the net grew smaller. Slowly, even the view of the sky began to fade. Her dreams lost their color, and hope drained away.
